Autumn Workshop 11th October 2015

Hello,

I am really pleased to announce a series of workshop dates for Autumn winter, todays blog post is about my October table centre workshop. I always like a platform to start designing from rather than just a generic “Learn to hand tie a bouquet”  This is because when I like to start making something I look for inspiration first, from magazines to art to the internet.  This class is going to take the pictures of Dutch still lives as a beginning and an amazing autumnal table centre will be the end!   Not only that I will be working alongside the awesome photographer Nina Petchey from  http://bellsandbowsphotography.co.uk/  who will take a picture of your design as a keepsy 🙂

What a don’t want from this class is anyone to feel like this is high brow, if you have ever met me you know I am certainly not that 🙂  It about making something beautiful you can put on your table.

This workshop is suitable for complete beginners to budding florists.
This class will use the Golden Age of flower still life as a starting point to inspire your own masterpiece!  We will look through pictures over a hot drink and biscuits for ideas.  Then I will demonstrate how to make your own table centre in the loose opulent style immortalised in oils. There will be buckets full of  the best flowers and foliages of autumn, think turning leaves fruits, dahlias, rosehips berries, fading roses and hydrangeas.  Once you have finished your table centre we will move it into a setting for a professional picture to be taken. The staging will be set with typical props of the period and lit to create a professional image of your masterpiece! The super lovely Nina from Bells And Bows Photography will take a professional photograph which will be emailed out to you.

COST £50 including all materials, container, refreshments and emailed link of picture

TO BOOK email info@orchisfloraldesign.com for booking form

I can’t wait to see you there 🙂 Its going to be beautiful

A lovely thank you landed in our inbox today with pictures by Shoot Photography too!

Not only do we love being a small part of someones big day we also receive some lovely thankyous. Lynsey and Nick were married at the spectacular Thornbridge Hall on a beautiful autumn day and she wrote us a lovely email this week to say how the day unfolded.

Dear Emma and all of the Team at Orchis. I just wanted to say a huge thank you for our fantastic wedding flowers – they were absolutely stunning! The flowers were a large part of our wedding theme – bringing in our orange colour scheme and I felt that the flowers worked perfectly with the bridesmaids dresses, the boys suits and Thornbridge Hall as a venue. Our cake was also finished amazingly with the orange roses and the urn in the courtyard was a real talking point! We had the most amazing day and so many people commented on just how perfect the day was. We have you to thank so much for being such a large part of bringing all of the different parts of our wedding together. We kept the bouquets in water on the day and afterwards at Nick’s parents home – my bouquet lasted for four weeks and the bridesmaids for three!  Thank you so much once again and if you ever need a recommendation, please do not hesitate to contact me. Love, Lynsey Griffin (previously Hall)

British Flower Associations regional heats for entrance to Chelsea Flower Show

Emma entered the BFA’s regional heat, the winner would be exhibiting at The Chelsea Flower Show and she came 2nd!!!

Last week I entered the BFAs competition where the winner would be exhibiting their floristry at the Chelsea Flower Show. There was some incredible pieces entered into the competition, and I was so proud to receive second place! The brief was to design a  bouquet a Chelsea gardener would carry on their wedding day.  I decided to create a contorted willow frame for the bridal piece with bulbs of muscari suspended on the trail in woven baskets. using an old corn dolly weaving technique I was able to hold the bulbs in place without damaging there feathery roots.   Above the trail I clustered together “Amnesia” roses, cut muscari, bronze cymbidium orchids, silver eryngium and anemones. My idea was to create a design where the gardener could plant a lot of the bouquet back into their garden. The willow was used to symbolise the activity of a garden both above and below the surface.  I was absolutely thrilled to be placed second as an absolute hero of the flower world came first Neil Whittaker NDSF AIFD FSF (check out the letters behind his name….basically spell out flower genius :))  The whole experience was exciting and rewarding and although there was no entry to Chelsea for second place, I have won a great sense of achievement and a thirst for more competing! So congratulations to Neil and I hope he goes on to get gold at Chelsea and many thanks to the BFA for a really wonderful evening.  See you all next year.
